The GAOS Really Youthful Group is very active, performing a musical production rehearsed over the summer at one of the Society's usual venues, typically at the end of the school summer holidays.

A Really Youthful Group production usually has a cast of around 30 aged between 8 and 17. A further 50 or more people (most of them youngsters, supervised by experienced GAOS mentors) make up the technical teams for lighting, sound, stage management, construction, publicity, make-up, costumes, and so on.

The Production Guidelines even have a special youth section (See section 3 - Guidelines for youth show directors). We recommend that all potential youth directors read these.

Youth group leadership - as a director or technical team leader - is an excellent learning experience and will teach you lots about effective teamwork, being creative, motivating your cast or backstage team, solving on- or off-stage problems, working to very real rehearsal and show deadlines. Most importantly - it's loads of fun!

Interested? The first thing to do, if you've got an idea for a show, is to talk to a member of the GAOS Committee. The Committee will provide you with a road map for success and the right level of knowledge and adult support. The deadline for submitting a formal proposal is the end of October for a production to be performed at the end of August of the following year.

Previous very successful GAOS Really Youthful Group productions include The Addams Family (2015), Hairspray (2014) West Side Story (2013), Oklahoma! (2012), Mulan,  Thoroughly Modern Millie (2009) and Guys and Dolls (2008).
