OVERVIEW
Based on the classic story of a forbidden love, West Side Story is about the rivalry of two New York City gangs – the “American” Jets led by Riff and the “immigrant” Puerto Rican Sharks led by Bernardo. The situation becomes complicated when former Jet leader Tony meets Maria, the younger sister of Bernardo, at a dance, and it’s love at first sight. This love blooms as they begin to meet in secret. When the Jets and the Sharks agree to one final fight for control of the streets, Maria sends Tony to stop it. Disaster looms, things don’t go as planned and before the lovers realise what’s happening, tragedy strikes and doesn’t stop until the climactic and heart- breaking ending.
