OVERVIEW
Music hall, a product of the Victorian Age, was a bright, brash and reasonably cheap escape from the drudgery of daily life for the masses and a descent into unconventional conviviality for some of the more daring members of the upper crust.
The 1984 GAOS Old Time Music Hall may not have had the gas flares, the plush or - thank goodness - the drudgery. It nonetheless hoped to bring the Society's audiences a glimpse of history, a wallow in nostalgia, even a sortie into social science - the lyrics to the songs bore testimony to bygone days - but mainly a great night out!
